On behalf of the team at BIO, we send our deepest condolences to the family of Dr. John Holaday who tragically passed away.
Dr. Holaday’s career was nothing short of inspiring. After earning his Ph.D. from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, he served at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research as an Army captain, and later as head of the Neuropharmacology Department. Holaday was also a professor at both Johns Hopkins University and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and was most notably a champion for biotechnology.
John was the co-founder of QRxPharma Limited, Medicis Pharmaceuticals, EntreMed and MaxCyte, holding various positions as CEO and Chairman. He also served on the Board of Directors of Exosis, Pixspan and CytImmune Sciences. In each of these roles, John’s commitment to advancing breakthrough medicines and cures for vulnerable patients was unwavering.
John also was a champion for BIO. He regularly opened the doors of his company to policymakers and elected officials, so they could better understand the nexus between policy and science. He worked hard to educate both state and federal lawmakers about the important work being done in labs and small companies around the country.
Dr. Holaday’s accomplished career will be celebrated for years to come. He has received numerous honors and awards, including being named to the E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year 2006 Hall of Fame. He also published over 230 scientific articles and five books – all of which will live on forever.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dr. Holaday’s family and loved ones.
